Science Elective – 1 Semester

Salt is made of sodium chloride, but sodium and chlorine are toxic – why? In Year 10 Chemistry, students build on the basic study of chemistry that is introduced in Years 7 to 9.  They investigate the theoretical and practical aspects of topics that are related to their lives via exploration of key chemical science concepts and scientific inquiry.

Content/Skills

Areas of study include chemical reactions, atomic structure, carbon chemistry and more.

Skills and ideas targeted include terminology, practical skills, empirical experiments, ethical issues and undertaking projects and research.

Selection advice

This study would be of interest and helpful in a range of future careers. Students need to study a minimum of one Science subject in Year 10.
