Advanced English offers students a rich and varied introduction to the three English pathways at VCE: English, Literature and English Language. This subject strengthens students’ skills in textual analysis, close reading, creative and analytical writing, and linguistic investigation. Students explore how texts create meaning through language, structure and context, and they examine how language varies according to purpose, audience and cultural influences. Through both classic and contemporary texts, students are encouraged to think critically, interpret deeply, and communicate effectively.

This subject is ideal for students who enjoy reading, writing and analysing language; those who have excelled in either Aspire English or Core English; and those considering studying English, Literature or English Language in VCE and want to develop a broad skillset across all three areas.
