Mathematics

VCE

General Mathematics provides a broad coverage of practical and applied mathematics skills, preparing students for a wide range of university, TAFE and career pathways. It is a real-world focused course that strengthens skills useful for a wide range of fields, including business, social sciences, and health sciences.

Students will learn to:

  • Explore financial mathematics including investments, loans, annuities, and interest calculations
  • Analyse and interpret data sets and statistical reports, calculating statistical measures such as mean, standard deviation, and regression analysis
  • Solve practical problems involving networks and decision-making models
  • Work with linear relations and inequalities in applied contexts, and linear and non-linear relations for modelling and prediction
  • Apply measurement and geometry skills to everyday and technical situations
  • Explore matrices and networks to model systems and solve real-life organisational problems
  • Use trigonometry and measurement for practical applications

This course equips students with strong analytical skills for careers in business, health sciences, social sciences, and trades.

Students will regularly use the TI-Nspire CAS Calculator to model and solve complex, real-world problems, including modelling, data analysis and graphing.
