Core Subject – 2 Semesters

Year 10 General Mathematics is designed to give students the mathematical skills and knowledge needed to participate effectively in society and prepare for further study in VCE General Mathematics.

Students will learn to:

· Manage personal finances, including budgeting and percentage applications.

· Develop skills in measurement for real-world problem-solving.

· Work with linear equations and graphs to model everyday situations.

· Apply indices and explore their applications.

· Strengthen algebraic skills and deepen understanding of probability and geometry.

Technology

Students will need to purchase a TI-Nspire CAS Calculator to develop familiarity with the technology used in VCE General Mathematics.

 

Selection advice

▶ This course is not designed to prepare students for Units 1 and 2 Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics. ▶ This subject runs over both semesters. ▶ Students will need to purchase a Ti N-Spire CAS Calculator (Approx $240) to help with the transition into the technology of VCE General Maths. Students should seek guidance from the Careers Coordinator as to which Maths they should undertake for their desired university course.
